What does it mean when Petco Love Lost receives limited adopter data via our software?

With some shelter softwares, Petco Love Lost will receive the email address and zip code for pet parents that are exiting a dog/cat from the organization. These email addresses are only used to send the pet parent an invitation to register their pet, for free, on Petco Love Lost. This email is basically an automated sign up feature for pets leaving an organization. It will include their shelter name, image and microchip, so all the new owner has to do is activate the account.

We send this email a total of 3 times post exit, on day 1, day 14 and day 28. The pet parent is never marketed to regarding any other products or services and the email address is never shared. If the pet parent “Opts Out” at any time, we never email them again. This function is turned on automatically when we connect with specific shelter softwares like ShelterBuddy and ShelterLuv.

We recommend that organizations keep this function on so that pet is protected should they ever go missing in the future, but this a feature we can turn off if needed.
